A Shady Courtyard
A verdant courtyard in the shady area between two houses is created using ‘aged’ pavers and other complementary materials, to create variations in texture in the hard landscaping. A formal bed set into the centre of the courtyard provides a green focal point from the windows, whilst the neighbouring wall is dressed with climbing plants grown in a timber raised bed. The utility area is screened behind a trellis and pergola supporting a climbing rose, reached by the blue brick path. Blue slate chippings create textural interest and space for pots and planting into the gravel. A paved area for entertaining leads on to the rest of the garden, and outside the French windows the path is edged with shrubs, perennials and herbs, bringing aromatic planting close to the house.
