Textural Contrasts
This north facing urban garden provides a modern space to dine and relax in a sunny corner, with a range of textures in planting and surfaces. At the bottom of the steps from the raised deck, a gravel garden planted with soft grasses leads to the lower level, laid with slate chippings, creating variation in texture and sound. To the side, a lawn provides a green carpet to soften the hard surfaces. Borders and raised beds are planted with a mix of structural and flowering plants to attract pollinating insects.
A corner seating area makes the most of the late sun, and stepping stone slabs lead to the back gate giving access to the village pond. Foliage and structural shrubs blend with flowering perennials and grasses in the gravel and mixed borders, providing year round interest. The customers built and planted this themselves – well done!
